It may feel more like football season in Oklahoma during the late summer months, but that hasn’t prevented the Sooners basketball program from making positive steps forward. Per reports from the OU athletic department, 3-star recruit Rick Issanza has officially signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Oklahoma Men’s Basketball program as part of the 2019 recruiting class. Issanza is a 7 foot 1 inch center originally from The Democratic Republic of the Congo, however, Rick has spent his high school years playing for Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Issanza averaged nearly a double-double for Bella Vista in his senior season, averaging 11 points per game and nearly 9 rebounds per contest as well. Issanza had originally verbally committed to the Sooners program back in late May, however, there was some speculation whether he would officially join the program or not based on his late signing. Issanza was also recruited heavily by other Big 12 schools including Baylor, Texas Tech, and TCU with an additional scholarship available from UConn.
Issanza joins an OU recruiting class which has gotten some hype nationally in recent weeks, with some projections highlighting the group as one of the 20 best in the nation. More updates on Big 12 basketball will be given as information becomes available.
