Impact is a hard thing to leave on any community, however, Ray West mastered this concept through his 45 years of coaching basketball at many stops throughout Oklahoma.  This past weekend, the Oklahoma sports family lost one of its living legends, as West passed away on Saturday night at the age of 68.  West had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this summer.

A former head coach at stops like Mustang, Cordell, Purcell and many others, West was Oklahoma’s active wins leader for a coach in basketball with 853 victories under his belt.  The longtime coach made Okarche his home for the last 25 seasons, leading the Warriors to 11 state tournament appearances including a semifinal run earlier this winter.  In that time, West left his mark on hundreds of athletes throughout the state and also left a legacy that will remain unmatched in our local sports fabric.  Funeral services for West have not yet been announced.
