‘Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood’ and ‘Fleabag’ dominate at the Critics’ Choice Awards

Andrew Cooper(SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA) — Quentin Tarantino’s dramedy Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood was the big winner in the film category at the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday in Santa Monica, California, taking home four trophies including Best Picture.  In television, the Amazon series Fleabag walked off with three awards, including Best Comedy.

Tarantino also nabbed the award for Best Original Screenplay, with Brad Pitt winning Best Supporting Actor honors.  Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood also took home Best Production Design.

Sam Mendes’ 1917 also landed a trio of awards.  In addition to Best Cinematography and Best Editing, Mendes tied with Parasite helmer Bong Joon Ho for Best Director honors.

Best Actor and Best Actress awards went to Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and Renée Zellweger for Judy, respectively, while Laura Dern picked up Best Supporting Actress honors for Marriage Story.

On the TV side, Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge won for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, with her co-star, Andrew Scott winning the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series trophy.  The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Alex Borstein and Barry’s Bill Hader were both repeat winners for Best Supporting Actress and actor in a Comedy Series, respectively.

Succession took home two awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Jeremy Strong.  Watchmen took home two trophies as well: Best Actress in a Drama Series for Regina King and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Jean Smart.  Billy Crudup won for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in The Morning Show.

Eddie Murphy, whose latest film Dolemite Is My Name won for Best Comedy, was honored the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Kristen Bell received the #SeeHer Award, which recognizes women who “push boundaries on changing stereotypes and acknowledge the importance of authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment landscape.”

The ceremony was broadcast live Sunday night on the CW, hosted for the second straight year by Taye Diggs.  Here’s the complete list of winners:
