(Oklahoma City, OK) The number of COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma reached 1,252 on Sunday, April 5, 2020, with an additional four deaths connected to the virus for a total of 46 deaths in the state, according to the latest report from the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The number of positive tests in Oklahoma increased by 93 from Saturday’s OSDH report, a rise of more than 8% on Sunday. The number of positive cases has continued to rise since the first case was reported in the state on March 6, 2020, and as more testing occurs. However, the rate of increase of cases has fallen in the last few days. The Health Department has recorded positive COVID-19 tests in 57 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. Of the 1,252 cases, 330 have been hospitalized, according to OSDH. There have been 1,401 Oklahomans who have tested negative for the virus through the State Public Health Laboratory, which has recorded 186 positive tests. Other positive tests have been recorded at Diagnostic Laboratory of Oklahoma, 217, and other laboratories, 849, according to OSDH.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute announced that it will collect convalescent plasma from donors who have recovered from the COVID-19 coronavirus as part of an experimental initiative to use the product to treat seriously ill patients. According to a news release, by creating the only statewide registry of available patients, the Oklahoma Blood Institute can make sure local patients receive the donated products and have the best possible chance at fighting the virus.
