(Enid, OK) The Enid Police Department has been approved by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training, allowing the city to host its own police academies. New officers will now be able to obtain their state-required training locally as opposed to the academy in Ada.

A key to Enid being approved for training is the population of the city reached over 60,000, a requirement that the city had just recently obtained. Enid was the only department chosen to host a new academy.

Officials with the Enid Police Department are hopeful that this will also lead to recruitment of new officers.

A new training center is in the works, currently targeting where the Enid Skate Park sits at 400 W State. The new center will include a 50-seat classroom along with a virtual shooting simulation. The skate park will be moved to 5th and Randolph and is expected to reopen in November.
