(Oklahoma City, OK) The State Health Department has announced they will be hiring hundreds of people to act as contact tracers to aid the spread of COVID-19. A call center is about a week away from opening up, according to the state epidemiologist, for current contact tracers.

The Health Department currently has 350 trained tracers right not but look to add another 1,000 in order to scale up or down depending on the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

Contact tracers investigate ever coronavirus case by speaking with an infected patient to obtain detailed information about everyone they have been in close contact with. Once the tracer determines who may have been exposed, they call the potentially infected individuals for further instruction.

Citizens are urged to call the state’s coronavirus 211 hotline to verify if they were contacted with a legitimate contact tracer in case they feel they may be victim to a scam.
