(Enid, OK) Garfield County will see a run-off election on August 25th after a surprising upset of incumbent interim Sheriff Jody Helm. Cory Rink found himself behind in the polls early on, absentee and early voting results put Jody Helm in the lead once polls closed. However, Rink would see his numbers start to climb as more precincts reported in and would take the lead with less than five precincts left to report. Deputy Dariel Momsen was only able to accumulate 13% of the votes will be eliminated in the run-off.

For those in Northwest Oklahoma, it came as no surprise when incumbent Jim Inhofe’s race for the republican nomination was called less than five minutes after polls closed. Inhofe ended the evening with 74% of the vote even with three challengers. Inhofe will take on Democrat challenger Abby Broyles who won her party’s nomination with 55% of the votes.

State Senator Roland Pederson prevailed in District 19 over challenger David Mason by just over 1,100 votes. Mason’s campaign created a challenge for the incumbent who pulled away late in the race.

State Representative District 40 saw Chad Caldwell defeat Taylor Venus 56% to 44%.

District 59’s Representative Mike Dobrinski topped 71% of the vote over Adam Masters.

Major County’s Commissioner race saw Daryl Wichert take half of the votes at 53% over challengers including Ryan Wahl who placed second with 22%.

One of the biggest items on the ballot was State Question No. 802 which would expand Medicaid. By a slim margin, people are for the proposal at almost a 50/50 rate. Only 7,000 votes separate those in favor from those against.
