(Oklahoma City, OK) Governor Kevin Stitt addressed the state on its position of protective face coverings on Thursday. The governor took the official position of not placing a mandatory policy but did “strongly encourage” Oklahomans to follow guidelines set forth by the CDC.

The governor also wore a face covering for his public appearance, the first time he has done so since the pandemic broke out.

The state has seen an increase in COVID-19 numbers over the past month during the reopening phase when health officials announced 427 new cases. The majority of which have been under the age of 35.

The governor cited football season as a primary reason for Oklahomans to wear face masks out in public. Proper precautions could lead to football season starting on time.
