(Enid, OK) Enid Mayor Pankonin canceled Thursday’s meeting regarding the mask mandate, reversing his plan for city commissioners to vote for the mandate a third time.

A Facebook video on Tuesday showed the Mayor saying that the matter has been settled and he said that he didn’t believe the rest of the commissioners supported a mandate for various reasons.

He followed up by saying he wouldn’t put the declaration forward if he knew it would not pass through the commissioners. Mayor Pankonin is set to focus the enforcement at a business level and not include individual citations.

Schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and religious institutions would have been exempt and it would have been lifted once Garfield County returned to yellow or green status in the Oklahoma Department of Health COVID-19 alert system.
