(Enid, OK) The Enid Police Department will participate in the nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign that begins today, May 24th, and running through June 6th.

Over the two week period, EPD officers will be enforcing seatbelt and child restraint seat laws with saving lives as the main goal.

In 2019, 59.2% of all vehicle fatality victims were not using safety belts or child restraint devices. 33,678 people were injured in crashes in Oklahoma in 2019, 2,456 were not restrained.

“Past ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaigns have shown how helpful it can be to our overall goal of getting people in Oklahoma to buckle up before they hit the road,” according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Chris Liles, who is the Statewide Occupant Protection Enforcement Coordinator for the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.

“Seat belt enforcement isn’t always the most exciting thing to do, but it’s incredibly important,” Lt. Liles said. “There is a mentality in Oklahoma that seat belts aren’t important, but the data shows that people are being killed at a high rate who aren’t properly restrained.”

Citations for drivers and passengers not wearing a seatbelt is $20. A $115 citation will be given for having an unrestrained or improperly restrained child.
