Dry conditions lead to Extreme Fire Advisory for Garfield County

SHARE NOW

Garfield County is under an extreme fire advisory. The dry and windy conditions, along with the warm weather are making good conditions for potential wildfires. The advisory will be in effect from noon until 7:00 pm tonight.

A good way to be alerted to fires in your area is to download the FEMA app which sends weather alerts to your phone. Ready.gov also has some tips on what to do both to prepare for a wildfire, and what to do when one happens. They suggest making an emergency plan so that you and your household or office know how to respond to a wildfire.

Make sure you have copies of important documents that could be lost in potential fires. Have supplies like food and water ready to go in case it is necessary to leave your home for an extended period of time. Know your evacuation zone, learn about local evacuation routes and listen to the local authorities.
