Oklahoma State Senate passes several bills this week that will head to the House for Consideration

Oklahoma State Senate made several moves this week to pass bills including eliminating the income tax on veterans’ retirement income, allowing certain students to receive credit for learning opportunities outside the classroom. Another bill passed would make virtual public meetings a permanent fixture throughout the state.

Senate Bill 401 was passed on Wednesday and was co-sponsored by Senators Adam Pugh R-Edmond and Brenda Stanley R-Midwest City.  If passed in the house, the bill would eliminate the income tax on veterans’ retirement pay in Oklahoma joining 33 other states.

Another bill sponsored by Senator Pugh that passed the Senate is Senate Bill 1623, the bill would allow eligible students to receive High School credit for learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

Senate Bill 1547 was passed which would make virtual public meetings permanent. The bill would require public institutions that have a website and a high-speed internet connection to record and post their meetings online.
