Several high-profile statewide candidates spoke at the Garfield County Republican Runoff Rally at the YWCA on Saturday. Markwayne Mullin and TW Shannon are both vying for the United States Senate seat last held by Jim Inhofe were the most high-profile candidates present.

They both held a Q/A session with the attendees of the event. One question asked of Mullin was whether or not he believed in term limits for the United States Congress. Mullin’s response was that he does, Mullin went on to say that “at some point, you actually will lose touch” he later added that “if you go up there for 40 years and you stay you end up being Joe Biden”.

However, Mullin warned that staffers should have term limits as well, or else they would wield a large amount of power. As for TW Shannon, he echoed Donald Trump’s campaign slogan of 2016 “make America great again” by saying “I fundamentally believe that we can make America great again but it starts by asking what made America great to start with and it’s what I call the 3 Cs, capitalism it’s Christianity and its the constitution”.

Shannon also took some shots at the top brass of the Republican party saying ” we know right now that there is a uniparty in Washington D.C. and the truth is frankly I don’t think Mitch McConnell is that different from anyone else in the swamp”.

Shannon will take on Mullin in the runoff primary on Aug 23, other candidates who spoke at the event were Superintendent of public schools candidates Ryan Walters and April Grace were also in attendance as were other statewide candidates.
