Enid Walk of Fame Ceremony to Honor Johns and Allen

The City of Enid put out the following press release.

City of Enid officials announced that the 2022 Enid Walk of Fame (WOF) ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th at 9 a.m. in the Nick Benson Ballroom at the Stride Bank Center.

The Enid Walk of Fame award is bestowed upon individuals who have:

  • demonstrated a lifetime of service to the community,
  • have made an extraordinary contribution, or
  • have performed an act of selflessness or statesmanship for Enid.

Each year, this annual award is presented by the Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners during the Cherokee Strip Days celebration commemorating Enid’s early pioneer spirit and heritage. The Enid community is invited to attend this prestigious award ceremony to honor the 2022 Walk of Fame honorees Elaine Johns and Joan Allen.

Johns is the Director of Marketing and Sales at Golden Oak Village and also the Executive Director and founder of the Woodring Wall of Honor and Veteran’s Park, Inc. She is well-known in the community as the veterans’ best friend because of her passion to bring recognition, assistance, and respect to all veterans.

Allen, the posthumous honoree for 2022, was well-known in the community as an accomplished businesswoman, volunteer, violinist, nutritionist, pilot, and philanthropist, having supported many community projects, with her most passionate being the Enid Symphony Orchestra.

Many downtown streets will be barricaded for the 10:30 a.m. Cherokee Strip Parade. Walk of Fame Ceremony attendees can access the Stride Bank Center by way of the preferred barrier at the W. Owen K. Garriott and Independence Avenue intersection or by any other police-assisted barricades.
