Peter Gabriel Announces First Tour In Seven Years, New LP Coming

Peter Gabriel has announced a 22-date European tour to coincide with the spring release of his latest album, titled, I/O. The dates mark the Genesis co-founder's first tour since his 2016 joint trek with Sting.

A North American itinerary and the release date of I/O will follow soon. Joining Gabriel on the road will be longtime bandmates bassist Tony Levin, guitarist David Rhodes, and drummer Manu Katché. I/O, which is Gabriel's 10th original studio set, will be his first all new release since 2011's New Blood.

Peter Gabriel said in a statement: "It’s been a while and I am now surrounded by a whole lot of new songs and am excited to be taking them out on the road for a spin. Look forward to seeing you out there."

Amazingly, aside from soundtrack projects, Peter Gabriel has only issued four mainstream studio albums since the release of 1986's So. Gabriel explained that the main reason why his albums take so long is that the lyrics always seem to come at a snail's pace: ["I'm much quicker getting the musical ideas than I am sort of sorting out and finishing lyrics, which, to get past my editor, is a lot harder. That's me, I'm afraid. Y'know, your own sort of quality control, but the point at which you say, 'OK, that's all right to go out. I'm not gonna be embarrassed by that one,' I can do that very quickly with music and very slowly with lyrics."] SOUNDCUE (:21 OC: . . . slowly with lyrics)
