City of Enid Announces Events to Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The city of Enid has announced events to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 14th and 21st. This year’s theme was “A Race To Unity: Why We Can’t-Wait”. Kicking off the celebratory events will be a prayer breakfast on Saturday, January 14th from 8 am to 10 am at the Central Assembly of God Family Life Center which is at 1202 Oxford Avenue.

More festivities will be taking place on Saturday, January 21st like a Commemorative March, which will start January 21st at 1:30 pm at the Stride Bank Center. It will be followed by a celebration that will be taking place at 2:00 pm inside the Stride Bank Center Grand Ballroom.

Awards will be handed out for several MLK Jr-related contests during the celebration. The contest will be an essay contest, a poetry contest, and a poster contest. Entries must be submitted to the Enid High School Library no sooner than 2:00 pm.

In a press release, the essay prompt was described as the following.

“Our theme this year is, “A Race to Unity: Why We Can’t Wait”.
Essay emphasis— This year, we are asking participants to write an essay to Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. and discuss our theme, “A Race to Unity: Why We Can’t Wait”. Students may express their
concerns about our current cultural climate, while also discussing solutions in at least one area,
during the course of the essay. They should include how we can all come together as a community
and a nation in an effort to achieve Dr. King’s dream for everyone.”
