Oklahomans Mourn Athena Brownfield In Funeral At Stride Bank Center

Oklahomans gathered at the Stride Bank Center on Wednesday, January 25th to mourn the death of Athena Brownfield, a 5-year-old girl who was allegedly murdered by her caretaker in Cyril Oklahoma on Christmas day.

Oklahoma State Senator Roger Thompson officiated the event, speaking about some of Athena’s favorite activities, Thompson noted that she loved to color and play dress up. Her favorite song was “Baby Shark” and her favorite color was purple.

Those in attendance at the funeral wore purple ribbons in celebration of Athena.  Musicians sang “Jesus Loves Me” and other Christian hymns in the middle of the two times Thompson took the podium.

Athena Brownfield is survived by both parents, her sister, and both sets of grandparents.
