City of Enid to Consider Economic Development Proposals For Department Store in Special Meeting

The city of Enid will be hosting a special meeting on Tuesday, February 7th at 5:00 pm. During the meeting, the Mayor and Board of Commissioners will convene into an executive session where they will discuss economic development proposals involving a department store, underused retail space, and “a movie theatre”.

Also being discussed at the meeting is a possible agreement with the Garfield County Jail. The nature of the agreement has not been disclosed however the Garfield County Jail has been over capacity and Jail Administrator Ben Crooks has lobbied both the City of Enid and Garfield County to expand the jail.

An 8.5 million dollar jail bond proposal was rejected by voters 63% to 37% during the August 23rd Primary Elections in 2022.
