Enid Rep. Chad Caldwell Responds to OSSAA Controversy

Enid Representative Chad Caldwell praised Attorney General Gentner Drummond for his letter to the OSSAA regarding a potential vote to prevent public schools from playing private schools in the playoffs.

Caldwell in a statement said the following about the situation “His efforts will ensure the fair treatment of both public and private schools’ athletic teams. The efforts by some Oklahoma public schools to penalize private school students based solely on where they go to school were not only likely illegal, but it also flew in the face of competitive athletics.  Because a few schools couldn’t beat these kids on the field or court, they tried to beat them in the boardroom.”

Drummond’s letter to the OSSAA said {this action} “bears no relation to a legitimate government purpose,” and instead “appears to relate to a more invidious interest—its explicit historical dislike towards nonpublic schools.”

After the letter from Drummond to the OSSAA the OSSAA tabled the proposed vote.
