At around noon on Tuesday, April 18th the Enid Fire Department contained a large brush fire at Cleveland and Chestnut. According to police scanner chatter, the fire was started as a result of a controlled burn that got out of control possibly due to the high wind.
The site of the fire was perfect for a brush fire due to all the scattered and dead wood surrounding the field behind a construction site. Even after the fire was under control it was still a large fire as firefighters continued to spray the blaze.
During the blaze and even after there was a strong odor of smoke near the scene of the fire.
