As we inch closer to the beginning of the unofficial start of summer (Memorial Day weekend), the school year is coming to an end and so is the NCAA sports season. College softball starts postseason play this weekend while the college baseball season wraps up this week. And in Oklahoma, it’s the battle between Oklahoma and OSU to wrap things up as each will look to win the series to give themselves momentum going into the Big 12 tournament.

Oklahoma State enters this weekend series ranked #25 in the country at 35-15 and have been red hot down the stretch. The Cowboys have won 12 of their last 14 games and a number of them haven’t been close. In the last 4 games the Cowboys have won, OSU has won by scores of 17-7, 20-7, 19-5, and 12-2. OSU still has an outside chance of winning the Big 12 regular season title as they sit just 2 games back of West Virginia. West Virginia will take on Texas in a 3 game series so if the Cowboys can sweep the Sooners and Texas sweeps West Virginia, the Cowboys will be Big 12 champions. Regardless of if OSU is able to get the regular season title, the Cowboys have been firing on all cylinders and are a team that nobody wants to face come postseason time.

Oklahoma also comes into this weekend’s series playing some pretty decent baseball. The Sooners are coming in off a 3-game series sweep of Gonzaga and have won 4 of their last 5. This season though as a whole hasn’t been the greatest for OU. Throughout the season, the Sooners would have been the definition of an up and down team. OU would win 5 games in a row and follow it up with a 6 game losing streak. Then they’d win 3 in a row and give them right back and lose 3 in a row. It’s just been one of those years for the Sooners. However, as mentioned before, they are playing better of late and will look to play spoiler to their in-state rival.

The fact that both teams are playing well down the stretch should set things up for a great weekend of baseball in Norman. The action gets underway tonight and tomorrow at 6:30PM while Saturday’s game will get underway at 4PM.
