John Cena announced during a surprise appearance at WWE’s Money In The Bank event in Toronto on Saturday that he will retire from wrestling in 2025. The 16-time world champion still plans to participate in several events before his retirement, including the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 2025. Cena’s film career has been increasingly successful, and he has been a part-time wrestler and full-time actor for nearly a decade, so his decision to leave the WWE for good is unlikely to affect his career. He’s set to star in the action comedy Jackpot! with Awkwafina, which premieres August 15th, and just started making the second season of his Max superhero series Peacemaker. (COS)
