The Recording Industry Association of America has recently bestowed AC/DC’s back catalog with an array of new platinum certifications. The most eye-catching of all of those new sales distinctions is that the legendary Australian hard rock band’s 1980 album, Back In Black, has been certified as a 26 times platinum-selling album in the United States. Back In Black is now tied as the third-most-certified album of all time, joining the Eagles’ Hotel California, which had previously reached 26x-platinum sales status.

The Eagles still can claim the most-certified release ever, with their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) compilation earning a 38x-platinum certification since its 1976 release. In second place is Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which has been certified 34x-platinum for shifting at least 34 million units in the U.S. alone. AC/DC’s second highest certified record is Highway to Hell, which was also moved up one designation to 8x-platinum sales status by the RIAA. (Forbes)
