It has been a long and challenging five years since Cage the Elephant released their Grammy-winning 2019 album, Social Cues. Singer Matt Shultz and his guitar-playing brother Brad lost their father during the pandemic. Matt took it really hard, isolating himself after a brief separation from his wife, struggling with his mental heath and addiction, and getting arrested for felony firearms possession. But the band used those dark times as inspiration for their rousing comeback album, Neon Pill, which dropped back in May.

“It’s one of those things that I never imagined happening,” Matt shared. “I’m not going to say I’m happy that it happened, but I definitely did learn some deep lessons in life. I have a much deeper empathy and sympathy for anyone else who goes through that.” On Thursday, Cage the Elephant just shared a new music video for the album’s second single, “Out Loud,” which was directed by Loris Russier. The band just started up their 45-date Neon Pill North American Tour, and play Spokane, Washington on June 30. (Consequence of Sound)
