Grateful Dead have been selected as the 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year. The legendary psychedelic rock band will be honored during a celebratory event held over Grammys weekend on Friday, January 31st. The recognition pays tribute to the band’s contributions to music throughout their legendary career, as well as their dedication to philanthropy and activism. The MusiCares Persons of the Year ceremony will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and will include an all-star tribute concert, with members of the Dead most likely participating.

“This honor is truly a testament to the legacy of the music, which has always been bigger than us,“ said surviving band members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir in a joint statement. “It’s about the connection between us, the crew, and all those who’ve been on this long strange trip. We’re grateful to stand with MusiCares and hope everyone continues to support this vital mission to ensure music thrives in perpetuity.” (Consequence of Sound)
