Ahead of this Friday’s release of Bando Stone & The New World, the new – and final – Childish Gambino record, Donald Glover says it is time to walk away from his musical alter-ego. In a new interview with the New York Times, Glover shares his thoughts on the Grammy-winning “character” he created and why he’s ready to leave behind Childish Gambino’s 13-year music career. “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done,"” Glover said. “It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.” But before Glover puts Childish Gambino away once and for all, the star actor/musician is launching a full-scale Gambino tour called The New World Tour, which starts up in Oklahoma City on August 11. “For this album, I really wanted to be able to play big rooms and have big, anthemic songs that fill those rooms, so that people feel a sense of togetherness,” says Glover.
