Oscar-winning Summer of Soul director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is working on a documentary on Earth, Wind & Fire that is set to be released in 2025. Questlove fittingly made the announcement with an Instagram post on Saturday, the 21st of September, in tribute to the legendary Chicago R&B group’s 1978 Billboard Top 10 hit, “September.” Questlove captioned his post, “The story of how a band led by a genius from Chicago changed our way of thinking, our minds and our hearts. This is the story of joy, persistence, love, pain, magic and self discovery. This is Earth, Wind & Fire.”

The multiple Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers all approve of the project, with Verdine White, Philip Bailey, and Ralph Johnson releasing a collective statement, “We look forward to this in-depth journey of our band, and are so excited to have Questlove directing the documentary.” Questlove also recently finished a documentary on Sly Stone that has been acquired by Hulu but has yet to get a release date.
