EnidLIVE! sat down with Event Organizer Krista Willey to discuss Ames Day and what to expect in the full day of fun.

Willey began by talking about why they do Ames Day, and how it benefits the community.

“We’ve been doing it for 47 years. It’s for the firemen so [that] we can have a fundraiser…get new clothing, and get our trucks fixed.”

The Turtle Races are very popular with the kids, and Willey was happy to share more information about them.

“The Turtle Races are a big deal. Everybody brings turtles, you can decorate them for the costume contest, and then…each division has races,” Willey said. “At the end, there will be a grand finale of ‘best-dressed,’ and then all the winners get to sell them in the auction.”

When asked what is the most anticipated event at Ames Day, Willey said that the public loves the fireworks show after dark.
