In this interview, Derek Darr sat down with the drummer of Yachtley Crew, Sailor Hawkins, to discuss the upcoming concert at the Stride Bank Center.

Hawkins started off by giving some background on the beloved band.
“We are America’s favorite yacht rock band, or maybe the world’s [favorite] now. We just got back from Australia, but we are excited to [bring] the show into Oklahoma on June 19…We’re going to play all your favorite yacht rock hits from the 70s and 80s from artists like Toto, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Ambrosia, Hall & Oates; all your favorites. And it’s a fun party, man, it really is.”
Hawkins also talked about the reaction they get from first-time listeners.
“When we first started, people would look at the first song and they would look at [us] like ‘what in the hell is this?’ Because we’re wearing full captain’s uniforms and hats and doing a little bit of choreography in some of the songs. And so there was always this ‘shock and awe’ look on people’s faces, like, ‘what the hell did I come to?’ And then by the second song in, they get it….”
