Enid Police Department Addresses Emergency Vehicle Yielding

The Enid Police Department released a post regarding issues with motorists failing to yield for emergency vehicles.

In an emergency, minutes can mean the difference between life and death, and critical seconds can be lost if drivers don’t yield. Motorists must make way for ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles.

Additionally, drivers must focus more attention on their surroundings while driving. If you hear a siren or see flashing lights, prepare to pull over and look for more than one emergency vehicle approaching. Do not attempt to accelerate to get ahead of an emergency vehicle.

Use your mirrors to estimate the closing speed of the emergency vehicle and plan your next move.
