The Enid Police Department made the following announcement voicing support for the Enid Public Schools Campus Police.
“In an effort to protect Enid’s school-aged population, the Enid Police Department is proud to support Enid Public School’s Campus Police Department in its efforts to begin enforcing traffic laws on school property and the streets and property surrounding school property.
Oklahoma’s Campus Security Act, Title 74 § 360.15, and an agreement with the Enid Police Department provides EPS’s Campus Police Department the jurisdiction and the authority to enforce all State criminal statutes and all municipal ordinances on and around EPS school property. If an EPS Campus Police Department officer initiates a traffic stop within their jurisdiction, that officer is provided with the same authority as officers of the Enid Police Department. The EPS Campus Police Department is its own independent law enforcement agency, with authority provided to it from Oklahoma’s state statutes.
