The Enid Public Library is gearing up to host Oklahoma Humanities’ ‘Let’s Talk About It” book club, which will explore the theme “Civil Rights and Equality: A Pulitzer Prize Centennial Series”.

The first session of the series will take place at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2025, featuring the book “The Known World” by Edward P. Jones. The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel explores themes of race, power and morality in 19th-century Virginia.

Dr. Tracy Floreani, president of the Society of the Study of Multiethnic Literature of the U.S., will lead the session. Floreani will host a presentation exploring the themes of the book and hold a group discussion where attendees will have a chance to share their thoughts and insights.

Later sessions in the series will feature works such as “Native Guard” by Natasha Tretheway, “Arc of Justice” by Kevin Boyle, “A Plague of Doves” by Louise Erdrich and “Behind the Beautiful Forevers” by Katherine Boo. Eahc book aims to humanize struggles, urging empathy, action and progress toward fairness.

This program will be free to everyone, and copies of each book will be available for checkout at the library. Copies of later books in the series will be available a month before each session.
