As Enid Public Schools prepare to welcome students back to the classroom on Wednesday, the Enid Police Department has released a statement urging drivers to exercise caution when travelling near schools.

The EPD emphasized the importance of obeying school zones as many kids and their parents will be using crosswalks in those areas. The EPD advises drivers to put down any distractions from cellphones to breakfast foods and keep your attention on the road.

The release also highlighted the importance of obeying school bus stop signs. Not only will failing to adhere to these signs result in a hefty fine, but you could also be endangering the safety of children who, despite being taught to look both ways before crossing the street, do not always remember to do that.

Many delays are expected to occur in and around school zones, so drivers should plan accordingly and allow for extra time to get to their respective destinations.

The EPD will be patrolling school zones as students return to class and enforcement actions will be taken against any and all violators.
