Longtime Enid philanthropist and businessman Paul Allen died this past Sunday at the age of 89.
Allen, who along with his late wife Joan bankrolled the construction of David Allen Memorial Ballpark and founded the Allen Family Charitable Foundation, is recognized as a man who used his wealth and privilege to aid the Enid community wherever he could.
Allen’s company AdvancePierre Foods, which he co-founded with David McLaughlin in 1974, was at one point recorded to have employed as many as 2,400 people. AdvancePierre Foods was acquired by Tyson in 2017.
For all the work he has done within the community, Allen was named the 2014 Pillar of the Plains and also inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2018.
