October was designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1985, 39 years ago by the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries.
The purpose of BCAM is to spread awareness for breast cancer by wearing pink, raising money for research, and getting early screening to prevent it. Over 360,000 people are predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer. When caught in its earliest stage, the survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.
For more information about breast cancer awareness and to donate, visit the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation here.
During October, CTB Sports helped spread the word about BCAM during our high school football broadcasts.
