Oklahoma Prepares for Freezing Temperatures as Icy Weather Approaches

Oklahoma is scheduled to receive yet another ice storm overnight on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The storm is predicted to begin at midnight and end on Wednesday, Feb. 18; prepare for freezing wind starting at 9 p.m. tonight. Gusts are predicted to be up to 35 mph with a chance of freezing rain after midnight.

Here are some tips to prepare for the storm:

  • Stock up on Supplies
    • Ensure you have enough supplies to last several days; this includes food, water, and medication.
  • Insulate your home
    • Close windows, doors, and seal drafts around the home
  • Charge Devices
    • Fully charge electronic devices to stay connected during potential power outages
  • Vehicle Safety
    • Ensure your vehicle has a full tank before the storm arrives; if travel is unavoidable, equip your vehicle with emergency equipment including an ice scraper, blankets, and a shovel.
