The Oklahoma State Board of Regents announced on Wednesday morning that President Kayse Shrum has resigned from the university.
The board accepted Shrum’s resignation effective Feb. 3. As of the time of this article’s release, the reason for the resignation is unknown.
In a statement provided by the board in the aftermath of the resignation, they expressed deep gratitude to Shrum for the work she had done and wished her luck on her future endeavors.
Shrum’s tenure as the president of Oklahoma State lasted four years, an era that saw the COVID-19 pandemic and the drama surrounding rival Oklahoma’s departure from the Big 12.
Shrum also made history in her time at the university, becoming the first woman to preside over one of Oklahoma’s major research universities.
The board will now begin their search for a new university president, with former Senior Vice President Jeanette Mendez serving as acting president in the meantime.
