Summer Chautauqua is making its return to Enid in June, holding all of its 2025 events at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid.
Chautauqua is described as historical tourism at its finest. The event serves as a rare chance to meet historical figures from an era long past, hear a monologue about them and ask them pressing questions.
Participants will also take part in daytime workshops and lectures to learn more about the social, cultural and political nuances of a given era. This year’s theme will be “Anything Goes: America in the Roaring 20’s”.
Here’s the lineup of historical figures that will be featured for this year’s event:
- Tuesday, June 10: Al Capone by Doug Mishler
- Wednesday, June 11: Zitkala-Sa by Selene Phillips
- Thursday, June 12: Zane Gray by David Fenimore
- Friday, June 13: Bessie Smith by Rebecca Jimerson
- Saturday, June 14: Mae West by Karen Vuranch
Workshops will take place at 10 a.m. and noon each day. Feature performances will start with live entertainment at 6:30 p.m. followed by a scholar coming to talk at 7:30 p.m.
Admission for this event is always free.
