1971 - 2024
As was her way, Betsy wrote her own goodbye. In her words, she was not bossy…just aggressively helpful and it needed to be done right.
Betsy Ann (Settle) Hormel, passed away peacefully at her home in Indianola, Oklahoma September 5, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born in Alva, Oklahoma April 8, 1971 and was 53 years old.
After years of fighting, she has finally won her battle against Invasive Ductal Carcinoma aka breast cancer, and now sits at the feet of Jesus! She was blessed to live her final years in a farmhouse in Indianola with her best friend and devoted husband, Troy, and children, Hailey and Zachry Doyle, and the precious light of my world, Luke Hendrix. She leaves on earth mom, Carol (White) Settle, brothers Larry Settle and wife Debbie, Troy Settle and wife Tessa, and my best friend and big sister, Becky Guffy and husband Jonny. Sisters in love: Tina Youngblood, Tracy Hormel, Terri Peterson, and Debbie (Clark) Settle. Nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and even a great-great niece and a great-great nephew. She is joining both maternal and paternal grandparents, in-laws, Frank and Judie Hormel, dad, Carl Settle and two brothers, Daniel Dean and Paul Ray Settle.
Her home will always be in Northwest Oklahoma, where she graduated with the Carmen-Dacoma class of 1989, and in 1993 from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Many lifelong friends came from 29 years of employment with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. A job she truly loved. (Thank you DOC Divas, for the priceless memories). She was fortunate enough to retire in 2022.
Life is precious. Don't wait to go to that place you've always wanted to go. Do that thing for someone that you can never repay you. Buy the records or the Snoopy that brings you joy! Maybe even open it and play with them. Be silly, be weird, do things that don't make sense and laugh! You can never be too kind, or too forgiving, and math does not apply to chickens or memories.
To all my friends and family, thank you. I hope to see you again! If you ever get a chance to talk to my grandson Luke, please tell him how much his Nana loved him.
With all my love,
BeTs
