A memorial service for Gary Lee Duncan, age 85, of Shattuck will be at 11:00 am on Saturday April 19, 2025, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Woodward, with Rev Jason Dirks. He will be buried in the Great Bend, Kansas Cemetery, in Great Bend, Kansas. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.
Gary was born on August 22, 1939, in Great Bend, Kansas to George W and Irva Marie (Robertson) Duncan, and passed away on Friday April 4, 2025, in Shattuck, Oklahoma with his loving wife Genevieve by his side.
After Gary finished high school in Great Bend, he entered the United States Army in 1958 and served for a little over 3 years. After being discharged from the Army he went back to Italy to apprentice to become a Gunsmith. Gary later came back to the United States after finishing his apprenticeship and began working at Champlin Firearms in Enid, Oklahoma, where he worked for several years. Once retired he opened his own shop and began doing gun repairs for many of his old customers and fellow friends till he was diagnosed with dementia. Gary enjoyed many things in life but one of his most cherished hobbies was being a part of a group called the Rocky Mountain Vintagers; he made lifetime friends in this group. Gary loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing were his passion. In 1995 Gary married his best friend Genevieve Phelan, they met in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Shortly after marrying they moved to Woodward, Oklahoma and their last residence in Shattuck, Oklahoma.
Gary is survived by his wife Genevieve Duncan, of Shattuck; his son Chris Duncan and wife Jayna of New Bloomfield, MO.; stepson Frank Phelan and wife Nina of Cedar Park, TX.; 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Irva Duncan; and 2 brothers David Duncan and Darrell Duncan.
