He worked as a pharmacist at Country Pharmacy in Anadarko, OK and TG&Y Pharmacy in Enid, OK. In 1983, Steve received the opportunity to open the Wal-Mart Pharmacy in Enid, where he managed Wal-Mart Pharmacy for 29 years. During this period, Steve became licensed as a Doctor of Pharmacy when the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy granted licensed pharmacists the title of Doctor of Pharmacy. In 2012, Steve resigned from Wal-Mart Pharmacy to pursue his life's dream of opening his own drugstore, Hughes Pharmacy, in Medford OK.
