In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Alva Head Baseball Coach Scott Baugh to discuss the upcoming Merrifield Tournament.

In reflecting on the team’s progress, the coach emphasized the growth of last year’s freshmen who gained valuable varsity experience.

“Last year we were really young, had a lot of freshmen that got a lot of quality varsity time, and they’ve grown up and played better. We’re still not where we need to be or where we want to be, but hopefully we’ll keep improving and go from there.”

Coach Baugh was excited to share two players who have been setting examples for the team.

“I’ve got two brothers that are playing really well; one of them is Campbell Gasford. He’s a senior, our catcher, [and] also one of our top pitchers. Campbell was signed to go play up here at NWOSU and he pitched last night against Jones…and his little brother, Coleman Gasford, is our center fielder. He also pitches…and right now he’s hitting at a clip of about 4-50. Really hitting the ball well, getting on base; he’s a table setter for us.”
