We are in the final 2 weeks of the regular season for High School Football and Northwest Oklahoma boasts several of the top teams in the state. Here’s a look at some of our area teams that are having incredible seasons.
3A Kingfisher Yellow Jackets 4-4
In the 1st year of Head Football Coach Regan Roof the Yellow Jackets are 4-4 despite a brutally tough schedule. If the Yellow Jackets can make the playoffs they will be a threat to make a run. Jhett Birdwell is having a great season at quarterback. Freshman Running Back Daxx Compton is coming on strong and giving the Yellow Jackets run game a huge boost!
Class 2A-1 Chisholm Longhorns: 4-4
Just 2 seasons ago the Chisholm Longhorns won 1 game in 2 seasons. Now they are on the verge of their 2nd straight trip to the playoffs. They even nearly upset #2 Millwood on the road last week. With Kelson Hamilton at quarterback, Mali Bennett at running back, and Easton John at linebacker. The Longhorns have been tough to beat!
2A-2 Alva Goldbugs: 6-2
The Alva Goldbugs are having an incredible season after making a surprising run in the post season last year. Head Coach Ryne Wilson is having a great debut year as Head Coach. He’s been helped by senior quarterback Campbell Gaisford and Lantz Mathers who is one of the best running backs and linebackers in the state. Kash Shipley is a dangerous deep threat who opens things up for the offense.
2A-2 Hennessey Eagles: 5-3
The Hennessey Eagles are bouncing back from a season where they were 1-9 a year ago. A huge part of their success is getting some of the school’s best athletes who didn’t come out for football last year on the field. Hunter Webber, Brandon Rodriguez, and Braedyn Richardson all played on the State Semi-Final team for basketball last season and didn’t go out for football. Their addition to the team this year has made a huge difference.
Class A-1 Fairview Yellowjackets: 6-1:
The Fairview Yellowjackets are having another incredible season. Senior Quarterback Jax Bernard has surpassed 10000 yards passing this year. While they were shocked on the road against Hooker make no mistake the Yellow Jackets are still in contention for their 3rd straight State Championship.
