In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Caldwell Head Boys Basketball Coach Jalen Risley to discuss the South Haven Rivalry.
Risley began by discussing how he used to coach the South Haven boys before coming to Caldwell.
“It’s a different dynamic; I coached both of these sets of kids in football season, so it’s always fun to go over and compete against those guys, you know, just coaching them and then being able to play against them. It’s a pretty special thing, so we’re looking forward to the game. I know they are, for bragging rights, but yeah, just excited.”
The coach also shed some light on some star players who have stepped up after senior Leighton Caruthers’ injury.
“Leighton [Caruthers]’ our one senior, but he actually can’t play this year because he tore his meniscus during football, so really we’re senior-less this year. Young guys that have stepped up and taken some leadership roles, that’s Mack Blosser. He’s done a great job. Still, I’m asking a lot of them to be more vocal and be that leader on the court, but he’s done a great job so far. I’ve had more guys step up, Caleb Boone, Zach Eaton, [and] Jax Noyes. They’re all sophomores doing a great job of stepping into a starter role.”
