CTB Sports spoke with the NOC-Enid Head Baseball Coach Ryan Bay about his team’s hot start to the season. Here’s what he had to say. “Offensively, we’ve been pretty balanced (0:28) and fairly consistent, and our defense has been really good. Last year, I think we set the season fielding percentage record for NOC. I think we were at 971, I believe.
Right now, we’re at 975, maybe slightly higher than that, so we’re fielding at a high level and just playing well in all three phases. Not that we can’t be better in all areas, but we’ve been fairly consistent. On the mound, I feel like we’ve got a little more depth than we had last year, and some of those freshmen that threw big innings for us last year have improved and continue to get better”.
Coach Bay also spoke about some of his guys who have been playing well. “At the plate, several guys are playing well. A lot of the usual suspects from last year’s team who are back for more, Jhett Creel as well as Jesse Ponce, and Cale Wetswiska. What have those guys brought to your squad this year? The experience that they bring back, guys that have played a lot as freshmen and were a big part of our squad last year as true freshmen, having guys like Jett and Jesse and Cooper Smith and Cale Wetwiska, BJ Pierre, all those guys, it really helps things because now you’ve got a core group of guys offensively that have been through it and have been (3:22) there, done that, and have acclimated themselves to how we want things done as a coaching staff and as a program.”
