In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Covington-Douglas Wildcats’ Head Football Coach Brian Smith to discuss the upcoming semi-final matchup against the Seiling Wildcats.

Coach Smith began by outlining the Seiling team and what they bring to the field.

“They’re very talented; fast physical, athletic. [They’ve] only lost to a very good Laverne team that’s playing for the Big B [Class] State Championship…It’s going to be a challenge, and that’s probably an understatement,” Coach said. “They don’t have many holes, if any. Very sound defensively, sound offensively, do a very good job in the steams that they run, lot of athletes all over the field. It’s going to be a tough game for us to play. We’re gonna have to play extremely well to give ourselves a chance. Our best opportunity is gonna have to be our best game.”

Smith highlighted a strategy Seiling uses and how to turn it against them.

“You cannot allow them to get on a barrage of points. You have to move the football—play a little keep-away from them at times. You have to capitalize every time you have the ball too; [I] don’t know what to expect. I’m still confused—offensively and defensively—about how we attack them. I just know it’s gonna be a game that [we] have to play extremely well in.”
