CTB Sports spoke with Covington-Douglas Head Football Coach Brian Smith spoke about his offseason, here’s what he had to say about his offense.
“Our explosiveness on the offensive side of the ball is going to be less, but I still think we have a good core and that group of young guys that played a lot last year are now going to be the leaders and lead us to victories and (1:48) help win us tight ballgames hopefully. Yeah, no doubt about that, and what does a spring practice, a typical spring practice, look like for the Covington Douglas Wildcats? (Well, mainly just installing stuff. We don’t get after it too terribly hard.”
Coach Smith also spoke about who might be the next Quarterback to take over for Wildcat legend Ford Smith, here’s Coach Smith said “As far as the quarterback you know got some guys we’re looking at. Justice Halcomb played quarterback in junior high.
He’s been a receiver in his freshman and sophomore year. You know, he throws it okay. He’s a better runner than he’s a thrower, so our offense could change around him.
Matt Castile was an eighth grader last year. He’s got a lot of potential moving forward. It’s just asking a lot of a freshman to jump in there and be able to do that but I’ve done that before with guys like Weston Carl and and Ford Smith or so you know it’s one of those deals I’m not scared to (put a freshman in there if he’s capable of doing it.
And then Nicholas Kramer is another one that is kind of in the mix. All those guys could play other positions if they’re not the quarterback so they’ll help us some way. Yeah it’s awesome to see you have a lot of good options to choose from in the fall but I think that’s awesome.
