Crescent Head Football Coach Brandon Gipe Previews Season
CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Crescent Head Football Coach Brandon Gipe to preview the upcoming season.
Gipe began by talking about where his football roots came from.
“I got my start in college; when I got done playing at Panhandle State…in November of 2016. Took December to finish finals and I started coaching that January. Kind of got thrown into it; honestly, it was the best thing for my career development…getting thrown into the fire and it was sink or swim, you better figure it out.”
Coach Gipe said that he will spread out the offense this season. Running the ball and being physical are his goals this time around.
Gipe gave his opinion on the new ranking system for Class A Football.
“It is what it is. You gotta play the teams that they put next to you,” Gipe said. “Some people could say that it’s watered down with who wins the state championship. I personally don’t see it that way, you still gotta play who you gotta play…go out and perform well.”
The Tigers will be led at QB by Colby Watson next season. Watson was Class A-3 All-District honorable mention on offense last season despite sharing reps with graduates Tanner Rice and Kade Varner. But this season the Tigers will be Watson’s team to lead on offense.
It’s a tough district for the Tigers who are paired with the 2-time defending State Champion Fairview Yellowjackets and last year’s state runner ups the Hooker Bulldogs. Check out the Tiger’s schedule below!
