In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Hennessey Head Football Coach Mark Cox to discuss the offseason so far.
The coach reflects on a hectic but rewarding schedule of spring ball, team camp at Cashion, various seven-on-seven events, and consistent weight room training throughout June, expressing satisfaction with the team’s hard work and progress.
“It’s been busy. We did our two weeks of spring ball, and then we went to team camp the week after that at Cashion. And then all through June, we’ve gone to a bunch of different seven-on-seven stuff. And of course, we’ve had kids in the weight room all through June, and they’ve been working hard in there. So yeah, I’ve enjoyed watching the progress and the work that our guys have been putting in. They’ve done a great job so far.”
The coach expanded upon the training regimen for Summer Pride.
“We go for four weeks in June and then obviously take the dead period off, and then we’ll go for another four weeks in July. We bring the guys in early because they want to be able to get to work as quickly as they can. So we start at 6:30 with our high schools guys and we have them in the weight room for about 45 minutes and then we’ll go outside and do some type of running, either conditioning or speed development, or working on change of direction stuff, just kind of a variety throughout the week depending on the day….”
