In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Hillsdale Christian Head Boys Basketball Coach Matt Watkins to discuss their first ever playoff appearance.
The coach was happy to share his gratitude for competing in the playoffs and to represent the team.
“We are definitely excited about this. We’re thankful for the opportunity. We’ve tried the last three years to get accepted into the program there with OSSAA, and we’re just so grateful that they’ve let us in, and now we’re doing our best to represent well for the teams here in the northern part of Oklahoma, our class, and especially our school and everything.”
Watkins also shared how the team has been growing and adapting to changes in strategy.
“We’ve consistently gotten better, over the back half of the season. We’re a young team; I play a lot of young guys in the game, and those guys have grown in terms of their maturity as basketball players as a team. The chemistry is gelling at the right time; I threw a whole new offense at them this year, [and] they’re adapting to a new coaching style, new offenses, new defense schemes, and then a whole brand new group of players have come into the program.”
